Reflections: Practicum

Practicum reflection

My practicum was at Kamloops sexual assault counseling center (KSACC), it has been a transformative experience, and one my best experiences in the course allowing me to demonstrate advanced critical thinking, develop ethical and intercultural awareness, and actively engage in creative solutions to pressing issues of human rights and social justice. I am excited to continue my journey in this field, armed with the knowledge and skills I have acquired during this internship.

My major goals were:

To be an advanced and critical thinker

I applied advanced critical thinking skills by conducting in-depth research on various human rights issues. For instance, I did research for sexual harassment in the workplace. These experiences enabled me to critically analyze complex problems and propose evidence-based solutions. I think I haven’t fully achieved and to the frank I’m not sure it fully achievable but I’m better.

To have Ethical and Intercultural Awareness

In the context of ethical and intercultural awareness, I consistently ensured that my research adhered to ethical guidelines and considered cultural nuances. Additionally, I engaged in cross-cultural collaborations, adapting my communication style to effectively convey ideas to diverse audiences. I am currently in a developing stage because we learn new thing everyday.

To be able to provide Creative Solutions

My internship experience provided numerous opportunities to engage creatively with justice and fairness issues. I actively participated in brainstorming sessions and contributed to the development of innovative solutions within the organization and the broader community.

I am currently a volunteer on the crisis line in KSACC to help people experiencing any form of violence.
